Jarad read an article earlier this year about the hike up the highest peak in the continental US. This hike is so popular you have to put your name in the hopper for a lottery drawing and if you get lucky you get to hike the trail to the top. Jarad and his brothers Tony and Joe got lucky this summer! They were given a permit to hike Mt. Whithey, a 26-mile round trip hike to an elevation of 14,496 feet, on the 4th of July. After much planning, training hikes and gear purchasing (Jarad kept telling me "look what I got me for your birthday/Mother's Day, etc.), they summitted in about six hours, meeting some real characters along the way. Jarad says it was something he's really glad he did, but that he's been on many more beautiful hikes, and he's not sure he'd make a big effort to do it again.
